Along the lines

Everyday commuters cross the Lo Wu border separating Hong Kong from Shenzhen. After the immigration checkpoint, these travelers mingle, cohabit and possibly interact with the local population. Then they disseminate within the city. Along the lines is based on recordings made in November 2007 on the KCR from Kowloon Tong to Lo Wu and on the different platforms along this line and on the border. It ends in the restricted zone between the Hong Kong and Shenzhen immigration checkpoint. This soundscape composition takes the different sound events from this environment as a framework and focuses on their different possible listening: one can listen to the sound events where sources are identified, or to meaning, with the emergence of signs through the confrontation with the extra-sonorous, or one can listen to particular qualities of sound though the different voices, dialects, resonance, etc.
